Representing Africa for the "Global Goal: Unite for Our Future" concert on June 27, African powerhouse diva Yemi Alade brought the house down with her performance of her smash hit "Shekere".

"Shekere" which features multiple Grammy award winner Angélique Kidjo, was birthed upon a personal request by Kidjo for Alade to revamp her classic "Wombo Lombo", heavily samples elements from the original updated to the current mainstream Afro-pop sounds.

"I dey hear the sound of a tambourine o, Talking drums and shekere combination, I see people under the tambourine o, Dancing like sey there's a celebration"; Yemi Alade emotively sings before progressing into a stellar duet with the iconic Angélique Kidjo who also sings in her native Benin dialect over the groovy DJ Coublon orchestrated instrumentation.

Universal Music Africa signs a Licensing Deal with Effyzzie Music Group for Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade

Yemi Alade, one of Africa’s most creatively and commercially successful artists, has signed a global licensing agreement with Universal Music Africa (UMA) - Universal Music Group’s west African affiliate - in partnership with Universal Music France (UMF).

Under the multi-year agreement, UMA will serve as the exclusive worldwide recorded music partner for Yemi Alade and her label Effyzzie Music Group, and UMF will serve as the international roll-out partner for the project.

This licensing agreement, effective immediately, shows UMG’s will to strengthen its position in this part of the world through UMA, and builds upon the enormous success Yemi Alade has achieved with her label Effyzzie Music Group. Yemi Alade is the first African female Afropop artiste to hit over 100 million views on Youtube and VEVO with her smash hit single “Johnny”, which is now the most viewed video from any African female artiste. She is also the first female entertainer in Africa to have over a million subscribers on Youtube.

This achievement makes Yemi Alade the first female African artiste and the second African to record over 100 million views on a single music video. The iconic music video also has the Amarelis Atelier designed dance attire displayed in the “Sounds of Africa” section at The Grammy Museum.
